I was smitten with this dish the moment I laid eyes on the recipe and accompanying photo over at $5 Dinners. Broccoli? Mushroom sauce? Chicken (or, in our case, chik’n)? My beloved carbs? Sold! So last night, I set to work on it.
This was such an easy dish to make. While the spaghetti boiled, I was able to prepare my sauce and salad (with homemade dressing commissioned by LeeLee), and by the time the meal and accompanying bread were in the oven, I’d nearly finished setting the table. Any time I can blend a little bit of efficiency in with my cooking, I’m a happy girl, and this dish made it easy!
Thankfully, the finished product was worth the wait. I love the way the sauce blends with the spaghetti as it bakes in the oven, and the garlic bread and salad paired with it beautifully. The only thing I’ll do differently in the future is bake the dish a little bit longer – while cooked fully, it lacked that piping-hot steam in the very middle. But no harm done.
In short, a fantastic recipe! We’ll definitely be trying this one again.
The stats:
Spaghetti: $1.00 ($0.50/person)
Broccoli: $2.50 ($1.25/person)
Cream of mushroom soup: $3.38 ($1.70/person)
Mozzarella cheese: $3.19 ($1.60/person)
Garlic bread: $1.99 ($1.00/person)
Cherry tomatoes: $2.49 ($0.31/person)
Lemon: $0.69 ($0.35/person)
GRAND TOTAL: $15.24 … or $6.71 per person.
BUT WAIT! This meal makes several hearty leftover servings. So the per-person price goes down even more!
