Sometimes, you just need to get back to your roots a little bit. And for us here at Chez Recessionista, that means digging deep and going Cajun.
We’re from Florida, not Louisiana, but Cajun roots stretch far and wide in the South. I grew up eating blackened grouper and crawfish and the occasional beignet, and oh, how I love that cuisine. I think LeeLee and I would both agree that we’ve left a big piece of our heart in NOLA, and we’re happy any time we can channel even a portion of our favorite city here in the D.C. area.
Tonight’s meal did not disappoint! LeeLee blackened the chik’n with pizzazz, and the farm-fresh collards popped with flavor. The red beans did a great job of filling out our meal and giving us a good old Southern experience here in an area that pretends it’s not below the Mason-Dixon line. Served alongside the last of our latest batch of homebrewed beer, it was a meal that couldn’t be beat!
The stats:
Quorn chik’n: $4.99/four ($1.25/person)
Red beans: $0.89 ($0.45/person)
Collards: Prepaid!
GRAND TOTAL: $5.88 … or $1.70 per person.
