Every so often, you just crave a sloppy Joe!
Tonight was one of those nights at Chez Recessionista. We have a full cupboard for the first time in a week and a half – just looking in the cabinets or in the fridge makes my heart swell with joy – and plenty of hamburger buns for upcoming cookouts. An easy way to make sure we use them all is to make a few sloppy Joes ahead of our grilling fiestas!
I pulled some leftover tater tots out of the freezer to accompany the main course, and we happily munched away. The poor dinner never had a chance. :)
And the best part? There’s plenty of Joe mix left over for LeeLee’s lunch tomorrow!
… And the BEST best part? This, from the bread man at the Wednesday afternoon farmer’s market:
A summertime feast, indeed.
The stats:
Hamburger buns: $0.99/eight ($0.12/person)
Ground “beef”: $4.69 ($2.35/person)
Pizza sauce: $1.39 ($0.70/person)
Mushrooms: $2.95 ($1.48/person)
Tater tots: $1.99 ($0.50/person)
GRAND TOTAL: $12.01 … or $5.15 per person.
BUT WAIT! This meal makes additional servings for leftovers. So the per-person price goes down even more!
