T-shirts, found books, surprise euros and more — it’s been a fun week of frugal finds!
1. LeeLee bought two shirts at Michael’s for C-H-E-A-P.
LeeLee loves to pick up T-shirts at Michael’s — they’re durable and inexpensive, and come in an array of colors. Well, this time he used some rewards points to hit the jackpot, bringing home two shirts for $6.34. Naturally, he came home proud as a peacock about it, and then so was I!
2. I returned a found book to the library!
This is, granted, a more frugal win for somebody else than for me, but it all goes into the same karmic bank at the end of the day. On my walk around the neighborhood a few days ago I found a wayward Paw Patrol book from our local library just lying on the sidewalk, clearly dropped out of a stroller or kiddo’s bag. Rather than leave it there to rot, I scooped it up and brought it back to the library on my next visit, saving the patron a book replacement fee. Win!
3. I repaired our bathroom sink (again)!
Our basement bathroom sink was draining super-slowly, and I’d tried a few homespun tactics (the most fun being baking soda and vinegar) to get the black gunk out. You know that black gunk that accumulates in bathroom sinks after awhile, don’t you? Well. Let’s not dwell on it further. At any rate, after trying all the less abrasive tactics and getting no joy, I had to bring out the big guns — Drano Max. Now, I know that some people are greatly averse to the use of Drano, and I myself like to avoid it when I can, but this needed help! And two Drano applications later, the sink is draining beautifully again, and I saved a visit from the plumber.
4. More euros appeared at home, adding to our vacation fund.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, we’ve had a trip to Europe on the docket (and, in fact, went just last week — hence the silence on these pages!), so imagine my surprise when I found another 15 euros in the candy dish, of all places! What a delight! That put us over 100 euros found, which was more than enough to save us from visiting the ATMs in Europe. We even arrived home with 50 euros unspent — which we’ll keep safe for next time! (But maybe not in the candy dish.)
5. Our electric bill was low again — hooray!
I must say, I feel quite vindicated with my electricity-usage plan these days. We keep the thermostat at 75 degrees, and have been doubling down on keeping our lights off when not in use, and our efforts are paying off! And in the heat of summer, at that! I’ll take it.
What have you done been up to on the frugality front this week? Let us know in the comments!
