(First things first: I recognize there is no photo today. I got so distracted by pulling everything off the grill that LeeLee and I sat down to eat and cleaned our plates before I exclaimed, “Oh, no! The blog!” Sorry about that!)
This week, the temperatures have been downright autumnal, the air filled with a crispness I haven’t felt since last November. It can mean only one thing: College football season is here!
(I haven’t talked much about my love for football on this blog. But don’t worry – over the next 12 weeks, I’ll make up for lost time! I’ll try to keep it appetizer-related, though. :))
Tonight, we fired up the grill and got to work, deviating from our usual burger-and-dog fare and moving instead toward barbecued chik’n. Great Country Farms sent us a BEAUTIFUL yellow zucchini squash in their most recent CSA shipment, so I sliced it up and put it into two foil packets, topped with some olive oil, salt, and pepper. While the grill fare cooked, the tater tots baked in the oven indoors, and within 30 minutes, dinner was served!
It felt great to eat outside with no humidity and no heat wave. Though Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, we’re going to carry our summer cookout season right on until we’re forced inside by wintry gusts!
The stats:
Chik’n: $4.99/four ($1.25/person)
Squash: Prepaid.
Tater tots: $2.50 ($0.63/person)
GRAND TOTAL: $7.49 … or $1.88 per person.
BUT WAIT! This meal makes two additional barbecued chik’n servings, as well as additional squash. So the per-person price goes down even more!
