I came home today to find my new Ball canning equipment waiting for me on the doorstep, wrapped up in plastic to keep the rain out. My heart sang with joy as I threw down my umbrella and ushered the box into the house.
I had to hold off until after I prepared dinner to open my new treasure and play with all the cool toys, but oh, the equipment was worth the wait! Shiny new Ball jars, a boiler, a canning rack, some tongs, a funnel … I’ve been waiting for this for so long!
Our new CSA membership at Great Country Farms allows us a certain amount of U-pick fruits and vegetables each week in addition to what will be delivered to our house, and I intend to get my membership money’s worth. From strawberries in late May to blackberries in the summertime to tomatoes all season long, I can’t wait to pick my fill and can ‘em up! I’ve got my eye on a strawberry jam first, then some tomato sauce, then …
Well. I’m getting ahead of myself. But suffice it to say, I can’t wait to get started!

Lucky you– a CSA and canning equipment. My husband is not a fan of us joining a CSA (he’s very afraid of strange vegetables), so I end up shopping at the farmers market. I think the CSA would be much more affordable, though!
